Garden Maintainance

The LGA maintains the gardens by using a professional contractor. This means that grass, hedges and furniture are cared for on a regular basis.

Any member having any concerns about the conditions of the gardens should contact the committee member responsible for garden maintenance.

The LGA committee often has special projects in hand to deal with the longer-term maintainance and upkeep of the gardens. We have recently completed the installation of a water supply, to aid development of tree and shrub plantings.

At the 2008 AGM members asked the Association to check whether some work might be done to enable more light access to the East End of the gardens, by trimming some of the trees. A report was commissioned by Caledon Tree Consultants, the arborial professionals the LGA uses for occasional surveys of the trees. Caledon's report is available here as a PDF [or, for a paper copy - contact Anne Russell]. The committee has discussed this report and, for a variety of reasons that will be explained at the 2009 AGM, recommends that no action is taken to trim trees etc.

An on-going concern is the prospect of Dutch Elm Disease affecting trees in the garden. For information on how we are tackling this, and any other queries, contact any committee member.

We are always keen to have donations to the gardens - plants, shrubs, or other contributions to the amenity. But PLEASE do not plant or remove anything without first contacting the committee member responsible for maintainance; this will ensure any addition to the gardens is in harmony with overall plans.
